Alquezar has begun its expansion into the United Kingdom with the sale of a twin concrete batching plant for precast production to HANSON UK, part of the Heidelberg Cement Group — leaders in the concrete industry in the UK, as well as in aggregates, asphalt, cement, and related products.
This plant is located on the Isle of Grain, in Thamesport, in the southeast of England, and will supply concrete for the production of tunnel rings.
These rings are intended for the construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, a 25-kilometre tunnel currently under construction, running mainly beneath the tidal section of the River Thames through central London.
The tunnel is designed to collect, store, and transfer almost all of the combined raw sewage and stormwater that currently flows into the River Thames.
The captured wastewater will be transferred from the Stratford area to East Ham, and then delivered to the Beckton Sewage Treatment Works for processing.
After treatment, the recycled clean water will be discharged back into the River Thames.
The company manufacturing the rings is the Spanish firm PACADAR, which has established operations in the United Kingdom to produce precast elements for this project and other upcoming projects planned in the country over the next few years.
The plant supplied to HANSON UK has recently started operations with great success, and we are confident that it will serve as our showcase in the United Kingdom for the many projects planned in the country over the coming years.
